The first raid as part of an active aerial bombing campaign of Britain was carried on in World War 1. On January 19th, 1915, three zeppelins attempted an attack on the Humber Valley. Blown off course, they instead hit towns along the Norfolk coast. Although bombs were previously dropped on two occasions by sea planes over Dover as sporadic affairs (a topic I’ll cover in a future video) this was the first attack as part of a planned new front for the war: aerial terror bombing. Join me as we explore this fascinating story from history.
